The idea behind Prime8, like all great ideas, is achingly simple - we like apes, we like music, we put them together.

In essence, Prime8 is a no-policy music club. We play whatever we feel like playing and if this means that the sweetest soul grooves are followed by blistering digital hardcore then that's a risk we're more than willing to take. If you love music for it's own sake, don't give a toss about fake genre constrictions and are willing to sample something a bit new then Prime8 is for you. We are dedicated to playing the wildest mix of music possible.

Additionally, Prime8 is also a benefit night for the Orangutan Foundation (UK) and all profits will be sent to them. Primates as a whole are drastically threatened by humans actively hunting them and destroying their environment but orangutans specifically are in grave threat - 80% of their environment has been lost in the last 20 years and, without help, another 20 years could well see their extinction.

Conservation International has recently compiled a list of the 25 Most Endangered Primates (click here for a link to the PDF version of the report)- including the Sumatran Orangutan, the Brown Spider Monkey, two species of gorilla and numerous others. There are so few of these species left that Russell Mittermeier, president of Conservation International, recently said, "If you took all the remaining individuals from the 25 primate species on this list and gave them a seat in a football stadium, they'd all fit".

Think about that for a second - The entire headcount of 25 distinct primate species could be seated in a football stadium. In the year 2000, it was estimated that the human population of Earth was at 6.1 billion.

This is the serious message behind the madness of Prime8. We want people to have fun and enjoy the music but remember that we, human beings, are the only ones who can ensure that our closest, non-human biological relations do not become extinct.

Once they're gone, they'll never come back.
